While
driving down the coast of California there are stretches of
road that go through channels blasted in the mountains. As
you go through these channels you can see how the mountains
were formed; tons of sediment layered on top of one another
for millions of years. This sedimentary stratification is
the inspiration for Atomic Glass's Strata pieces. Different
layers of different colors of glass layered on top of each
other, coming together giving the sense that these objects
were made over time. The base colors are reminiscent of the
organics in the soil, and the metallic sheens are representative
of the precious minerals that infuse the land.
